Miles visits the Purple Fiddle

Yesterday we traveled to Thomas to watch Seth and JB Tenney play at the Purple Fiddle. I just knew that I was bringing my trusty camera along because that place is chock full of wonderful quirky furniture and fun photo props. As you can see by Miles' expression in this first photo... as usual, he was not sharing my excitement about all of the picture taking.

I almost didn’t edit this pic because the focus is off but there’s something about it that I love. Maybe it’s the just the cool textures of the steps and wall. I’m not sure which I like better…the color or b&w version.

A few more and then I’ll quit…I promise!

Some of Seth. I love the one of Seth smiling at Miles. He was actually performing “Miles Moves” right then, which is a song he wrote for our litte boy.

  1. Candace, I love all of these. I love the photo of Miles on the steps too, and the color one really pops. You captured some great expressions! Miles and Seth have gorgeous eyes.

I don't think your focus looks soft at all! But if you are worried about how the photos are looking, you could try the Totally RAD Action (free) web sharpening action. It works great for Facebook and blogs and it's available on their Facebook fan page. I could link you up if you don't have it.

    I love your work, sweetie!

  3. I think the one on the stairs is my favourite. Simple, good composition and natural look. Your little guy is cute but the background seems to swallow him up in the others and distracts from him. Just my two cents.

  4. Candace - These images are great. Of course, it is very difficult to tell how sharp they are being that they are blog size. They look sharp to my eye at this size, but I am not sure how they look at a larger size. I particularly like the ones posted alone (or in a pair). Although, the last one of Seth is nice as well. I LOVE the one of Miles on the steps in color. Great composition.
Also, I use the totally rad sharpening action Slice like a Ninja - love it!

  5. I like the purple bench photo. Do you have one where you have the entire bench? The place that you went looks awesome...lots of nooks and crannies that make for interesting background scenery.

  6. No, unfortunately I don't have one with the whole bench. I wish I did! Miles only holds a "pose" for long enough to maybe get one good shot and that's it! LOL

  7. @Robin, here is the link for the TRA Facebook resizing and sharpening action. It takes a full size photo and sizes it to 720px on the long size. There are three versions of the action with the first creating the sharpest effect. If you have a sharp photo to begin with, I recommend using the middle action. I see a big difference with the photos I post to Facebook now!

  8. I really don't see the focus issues you talk about... these all look like they have great focus. From what I can see I think we're talking about a "clarity" issue, you might try to do a "double" defogging, once on the image SOOC, and then once again when you're done editing and see if that helps.

Also know that unless you're buying professional $$$ lenses, you're not going to get those absolutely 100% tack-sharp photos that you see on pro blogs.

That doesn't mean that these aren't nice photos though, and frankly with children I think slightly softer photos are better with their features. Work what you've got!
